Founded by Mr.P.John in 1910 as the first Indian owned Public Limited Rubber Plantation Company, it has a track record of efficient,progressive and profitable management and has received awards for excellence in Product Quality, Factory Safety and Effluent Treatment from the Tea Board. The United Planters Association of South India , The National Safety Council, The Department of Factories and Boilers and the State Pollution Control Board.

Karimtharuvi Tea Estate was established in 1915 on the scenic banks of the Periyar River, marking the beginning of a legacy rooted in Kerala’s rich plantation heritage. The estate was developed in partnership with Mr. G.H. Davey of the Imperial Bank of India, whose association contributed to the early foundation and growth of the venture during the formative years of plantation development in the region.

After the death of Mr.P.John in 1927 his son and personal assistant since 1919 , Mr.P.Kurian John Fellow of the Royal College of Arts London took up the management of the company and was the Managing Director till 1953. He served on the Board till his death in 1962.

Mr.K.C Thomas was appointed as the Managing Director in 1954 and continued to guide the Company till his death in 1991. Throughout his tenure the Company paid attractive dividends and declared 3 out of the 4 Bonus issues made by the Company.

Mr. John Karot Thomas is a seasoned plantation leader with over 45 years of experience in rubber, tea, coffee, pepper, and cardamom cultivation. Educated at Lawrence School, Lovedale, he holds a Degree in Economics from Madras University, an LLB from Bangalore University, and has completed the Management Education Programme (MEP) at IIM Ahmedabad. He has been associated with Malankara Plantations Ltd since 1980 and has served as Managing Director since 1991, leading the Company to recognition for excellence in plantation management, cost efficiency, product quality, and statutory compliance. Under his leadership, the Company has received awards from the Pollution Control Board, the State Government Safety Award, and multiple Golden Leaf India Awards at the India International Tea Conference, Kochi. He also serves as Director of Malankara Spaces Limited (formerly Malankara Wood Ltd), Malankara Enterprises Ltd, Johnsons’ Estates and Agencies Pvt. Ltd, The Association of Planters of Kerala, UPASI Commodities Exchange Limited. Mr. John Karot Thomas has held several prestigious industry positions, including leadership roles in UPASI, APK, the Tea Board of India, Rubber Board, and other national plantation bodies. Beyond business, he is actively involved in social, philanthropic, and marine sports activities, continuing a family legacy closely linked with the early development of rubber plantations in Kerala. Under his leadership, the Company became listed on the Metropolitan Stock Exchange of India in May 2025. He belongs to the Promoter Group of the Company.

Mr. Cherian Thomas Karot is an experienced planter with over 36 years of expertise in rubber, tea, coffee, pepper, and cardamom cultivation. He has been associated with the management of Malankara Plantations Ltd since 1988, contributing to the Company’s steady growth and strong plantation management practices. He represents a distinguished plantation legacy, with his great grandfather Mr. P. John credited with establishing the first rubber plantations in Kerala under indigenous management, and his grandfather’s brother Mr. Kurian John, who was the first rubber production commissioner of the Indian Rubber Board and noted for his initiative in forming the Indian Rubber Board. He also serves as Managing Director of Malankara Spaces Limited (formerly Malankara Wood Ltd), and Director of Malankara Enterprises Ltd, and Johnsons’ Estates and Agencies Pvt. Ltd. He belongs to the Promoter Group of the Company.

Mrs. Susann Koshy is a senior executive with over 13 years of experience across philanthropy, general management, business development, sales and marketing, human capital development, and customer relations. She has been associated with Malankara Plantations Ltd since 2019 and plays a key role in the Company’s leadership and operational development. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature from RLS College, Belgaum, Karnataka. Her professional background spans diverse sectors, including plantations and social initiatives. She also serves as Director of Johnsons’ Estates and Agencies Pvt. Ltd. She belongs to the Promoter Group of the Company.

Mr. M.K. Balagopalan Nair holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering (B.Sc. Eng. – Mechanical) and has over 14 years of experience in the plantation sector. He has been a Director of Malankara Plantations Limited since 2010 and brings valuable technical and managerial expertise. He has also served on the Rubber Board, as the Director of product development, processing and supporting quality improvement, value addition, and cost efficiency in block and rubber production of centrifuged latex. He is also a Director of Malankara Enterprises Ltd and Malankara Spaces Limited (formerly Malankara Wood Ltd).

Mr. Balaji Krishnan is a Chartered Accountant with a bachelor’s degree in commerce and over 13 years of experience in finance and plantation management. He has been a Director of Malankara Plantations Limited since 2011, providing financial and strategic oversight. He is also a Director of Malankara Enterprises Ltd and Malankara Spaces Limited (formerly Malankara Wood Ltd).

Mr. Thomas John holds a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and has over 30 years of experience in plantation management. A Director of Malankara Plantations Limited since 2009, he offers strategic guidance in plantation development and cultivation practices. He is also a Director of Malankara Enterprises Ltd and Malankara Spaces Limited (formerly Malankara Wood Ltd).

Mr. Ithak Karot Thomas holds a degree in Law and a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and has extensive experience in administration. He serves as the Administrator of Malankara Plantations Limited, where he plays a key role in enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring regulatory compliance, and strengthening corporate governance. He belongs to the Promoter Group of the Company. In addition, he provides strategic and hands-on management support to the plantation industry, offering practical solutions and forward-looking approaches that contribute to sustainable growth and improved management practices.
